Why we don’t go out in dangerous weather conditions

Why We Don’t Travel When Roads Are Unsafe — And Why That Matters 🐾❄️

When severe weather hits, emotions can run high. We all want our pets cared for, routines maintained, and life to continue as normally as possible. At Happy Trails, we understand that deeply — and we also believe something even more important comes first: the safety and well-being of our human team ❤️.

That’s why we want to be clear and transparent about our stance during unsafe and dangerous road conditions.

Safety Is Not Optional — It’s a Core Value 🚨

When roads are icy, flooded, snow-covered, or otherwise dangerous, we do not require our team to travel. This is not a convenience decision. It’s a values decision.

Our team members are real people with families, responsibilities, and lives outside of work. Asking them to drive in conditions that put them at serious risk is not something we are willing to do — ever.

Some companies advertise that they “go out no matter what.” While that may sound reassuring on the surface, we believe it comes at too high a cost. No walk is worth a car accident, an injury, or a life-altering event 🚗⚠️.

Respecting Road Crews and Emergency Services 🚜🧂

During major storms, local DPW and emergency crews often ask the public to stay off the roads so they can do their jobs safely and effectively.

We fully respect that request.

Keeping non-essential vehicles off the road helps:

  • 🚜 Snow plows and salt trucks work faster
  • 🚑 Emergency responders reach people who truly need help
  • 🏘️ Overall community safety improves

Our choice to pause travel during dangerous conditions is part of being a responsible, community-minded business.

What We Do Instead: Planning, Communication, and Backup Plans 🗂️📞

Choosing safety does not mean abandoning our clients.

When unsafe weather is possible, we proactively:

  • 🌦️ Monitor forecasts and road advisories closely
  • 📢 Communicate early and clearly with clients
  • 🔁 Line up Plan B — and sometimes Plan C
  • 🕒 Adjust service plans before conditions escalate

This may include earlier visits, modified schedules, in-home care adjustments, or coordinated coverage when it’s safe to do so. Every situation is evaluated thoughtfully, not reactively.

You’re Never Left in the Dark 💬✨

One of the most important parts of our approach is communication.

If weather may impact service:

  • 📬 Clients are kept informed
  • 📋 Expectations are clearly set
  • 💡 Changes are explained, not glossed over

We don’t disappear, and we don’t pretend unsafe conditions are business as usual.

Caring for Pets Means Caring for People Too 🐶❤️👩‍🦺

At Happy Trails, we believe exceptional pet care and ethical employment go hand in hand. A team that feels protected, respected, and supported is a team that provides better care — every single day.

We will always choose:

  • 🧠 Thoughtful planning over risky promises
  • 🔍 Transparency over bravado
  • 🤝 Long-term trust over short-term optics

Thank you for trusting us, for understanding our commitment to safety, and for supporting a business that puts people first — even when the weather doesn’t cooperate 🌨️🐾.
